S.M.A.R.T. Goals
A goal is something you want to achieve. The best goals are S.M.A.R.T. goals. This acronym can help you make goals that will help you in the future.
Goals can be short-term or long-term. Short-term goals can take anywhere from an hour to a week. Long-term goals can be anywhere from a month to your whole lifetime! Goal setting is a life skill. It will help keep you focused and motivated, avoid procrastination, and allow you to measure progress.
S.M.A.R.T. stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. A good goal has all five of these qualities. When a goal is specific, this means it is clear and easy to understand. Think about what you want to accomplish, why it is important to you, who is involved, and what resources and/or limitations are involved. When a goal is measurable, you have to set a numerical value for your goal. Before determining this, make sure your number is realistic. Make sure your goal is achievable. You won't be very happy if it is impossible to achieve your goal, so make sure you can. Make sure your goal is relevant. You'll only really try if the goal is important to you and relevant to what you want. Finally, make sure your goal is time-bound. Most of us work better, harder, and faster when there's a deadline. The deadline ensures that you don't procrastinate forever. An example of a S.M.A.R.T. goal would be: I will run five days a week for thirty minutes each day.
Next time you set a goal, make sure it's smart. Your goal should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Now, go set a goal!
